After taking a couple of days to reflect on the outcome of this past weekend, it’s hard not to be disappointed, even a little mad. CrossFit Games or not, this was a competition and I expected to win. I felt prepared and I had high expectations. Simply put I’m human, I’m competitive, and I hate losing. Not only that, I can honestly say that at this point in my career I am the fittest that I have ever been. I am without a doubt, the best at CrossFit that I have ever been. I have never worked harder or dedicated so much in my effort to do things right. From diet, to sleep, to my overall wellness, you name it, I was so laser focused.
I have also never been more faithful in my adult life than I am now as a 29 year old woman. It’s funny how things work out like that sometimes. You sacrifice so much only to have things not go your way. I’m still searching for the meaning behind all of this but regardless I want all of you to know that I will be back next year. I am not going anywhere and I am determined to fill the holes in my game so that programming never gets the best of me again. I did practice all of the workouts at home and had I performed them in competition the way I did the week prior, I would be going back to Cali in July for my 6th CrossFit Games appearance. Unfortunately things don’t always go as planned and no matter how close I might have come, it just wasn’t meant to be. I didn’t perform well enough. At least not this year anyway.
Now that that’s out of the way I want to say thank you again to all the incredible people in my life that make it possible for me to do what I love to do:
Thank you to CrossFit for an amazing Regional competition. Without you we wouldn’t have any of this. To all of the judges and volunteers at the North Central Regional, you guys were awesome. Thank you for volunteering your time, efforts, energy, maybe even a hard earned day of PTO just to make it possible for us athletes to compete. We appreciate it so so much. To the CrossFit Games media team thank you for all you do. I’m excited to rewind & rewatch it all. I can’t wait to tune in over the next 4 weeks to see how things shake out for the rest of the Regions! To my fans and fellow CrossFitters all over the world, thank you for the prayers and words of encouragement. I’m not sure you understand exactly how much your support means to me. I feel incredibly blessed & lucky to have so many people interested in my journey. Not only that, I love knowing that we are all in this CrossFit experience together. Only in CrossFit are we all doing the same things day after day in our efforts become healthier individuals. We all are striving to be better people and that’s what makes what we share so special. No other sport on the planet is like that. It really is a privilege and a honor to compete for all of you. Thank you again. Thank you to my CrossFit Omaha community. I thoroughly enjoy having you be a part of my CrossFit life. A special thank you to those that made the trip to Chicago to cheer us on in person. To the rest of CFO Nation and the Omaha, Nebraska CrossFit community thank you for cheering loud from home. Let’s continue to make our local CrossFit community stronger each and every day! Thank you to my Coach, Joe Westerlin for all that you do. I know we will learn from this and come back stronger than ever! To all of my family and all of my friends, thank you for being in my life. Without you guys I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I love you all very much! To my husband, thank you for being by my side every step of the way. You are the one person in this world that truly knows what goes into all of this and I can’t thank you enough for being on the same page as I and staying focused with me. We win together and we lose together, you are my partner in crime and I certainly couldn’t do this without you. I love you as well!
Last, but certainly not least, I want to say thank you to my amazing sponsors. I am so grateful for you & I’m looking forward to what we will accomplish together in the future. Thank you CrossFit Omaha. Thank you Progenex. Thank you Reebok. Thank you Again Faster. Thank you SpiderTech Tape. Thank you PurePharma. Thank you Kill Cliff. Thank you Barbells For Boobs. Thank you Omaha Chiropractic and Acupuncture. I am truly appreciative of everything you all give me and consider myself to be a very blessed & fortunate athlete.
To my fellow female North Central Regional competitors (Alexandra, Elisabeth, and Kelley) congratulations on qualifying for the 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games! I know you girls will represent us well and make us all proud in Carson. Special congrats to CrossFit Omaha’s, Kyle Kasperbauer on his 3rd straight Regional Title! CFO is very proud of you. Good luck to all of my friends and fellow competitors competing at their respective Regionals over the next 4 weeks. I know how hard you’ve all worked and I hope your efforts pay off. Remember to smile out there & have fun!
For me it’s a few weeks off and back to work I go. I’m an athlete to the core and I am determined to get better. I truly love what I do and I can honestly say that nothing makes me feel more complete than CrossFitting. CrossFit makes me a better person and allows me to be the version of myself that I want to be. What doesn’t kill me will only make me stronger and a little adversity certainly won’t stop me from moving forward. When life throws you curves, you gotta learn how to use them! Until next year my friends, stay you, stay strong and WOD on.
