Here, Amanda shared a little more insight into her experience at the Regional weekend, how OPEX has impacted her results over the past several years (since first starting in 2012) and about herself as an athlete.
Q. Regionals-what was your experience like throughout the weekend; Highs and lows?!
Amanda: I had a good time at the Regional this year, I think I did well. I just focused on one event at a time and it seemed to work in my favor.
Q. Favorite/most memorable event and why?
Amanda: Favorite event had to be the final. I had never done 15 unbroken muscle ups before so that was exciting. Could not have asked for a better way to end the weekend.
Q. Biggest surprises?
Amanda: One of the biggest surprises was how well I thought I handled the 1mile run. I don’t have a lot of experience with the TrueForm so I was unsure of what pace I would be able to hold. I came off the mile feeling better than I thought I would.
Q. How specifically did you see your coaching/work with OPEX come out?
Amanda: I think I see my work with OPEX comes out mostly any time I am competing. Its when I can truly put my training to the test.
Q. Goals for Carson this year and how you plan to achieve those? AND what does training look like now?
Amanda: Most importantly I just want to perform well, but I wouldn’t mind ending up in the top 10 this year. My training from now until the Games will geared towards more enduring events, more odd objects , and high skilled movements.
Q. How did you get so strong? Secrets?
Amanda: I was a gymnast growing up so that played a big role in developing my strength. It has helped me better understand the movements that have made me successful in CrossFit.
Q. Outside of CF what do you do/who are you?
Amanda: Outside of training I coach gymnastics. The kids I coach are great, they compete so I see them multiple times a week. I enjoy watching them learn and grow as athletes and as people.
Q. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? What do you want now?
Amanda: I still have no idea what I want to be when I grow up. I have always enjoyed being an athlete so for now that’s what I’m doing.
Q. 3 facts we prob don’t know about you?
Amanda: (1.) I have an older sister. (2.) I don’t have cable. (3.) I don’t like tomatoes.
Q. How did you celebrate post regionals?
Amanda: Had a nice dinner with the OPEX team and coaches.
Q. Your favorite…
